Rules for buying used phones and for handling personal information are different in every state or territory, and they change. Cash For Phones Albury should have a lawyer review this page before relying on it, and should edit anything on it that does not match how this business actually runs.

We buy used phones and other devices from members of the public. This page covers the information we collect through this website and when we meet you.

When you request a quote we collect the name, email address and phone number you give us, along with the details of the device you want to sell (model, storage, carrier status and condition), and anything you write in the notes.

If you message us through the chat on this site, we keep those messages so we can answer you and so we have a record of what was agreed.

When we actually buy a device from you we collect more: your government issued photo ID, including the type, the issuing agency and the number on it, and in some places a photograph of you. We also record the device's serial number and its IMEI or MEID, and the price we paid. We are required to collect these. See "What we have to report" below.

To work out what your device is worth, to contact you about your quote, and to arrange a time and place to meet.

We also keep a record of completed purchases because the law where we trade requires us to, and because that record is what we hand to law enforcement if a device we bought turns out to have been stolen.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to advertise to you on behalf of anyone else.

We text and call the number you give us. That is how you get your quote, how we agree a time to meet, and how we tell you if the price changes after we see the device. If you would rather we did not, tell us and we will use email instead.

When we buy from you, we send you one text with a link to your seller account page, where your receipt is kept. That text is part of the sale, so it does not depend on the box below.

The bill of sale also has an optional box you can tick to get texts about future offers and your referral rewards. If you tick it, we may text you our current prices about once a month, remind you of any referral balance you have, and tell you when someone you referred sells to us. If you leave it unticked we do not send those, and the sale is exactly the same either way.

Some of those messages are sent automatically. You can stop them at any time by replying STOP to any text, or by telling us. Reply HELP for help. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply, and we do not control those. Stopping the texts does not cancel a sale you have already agreed.

We do not give your number to anyone else to market to you.

We are a second-hand dealer. Every state licenses that trade and every state requires us to keep a record of each purchase: who sold it to us, the ID we checked, and the device's serial number and IMEI, and in most of them to make that record available to police. Several states require the record to be lodged electronically, usually within a day or two.

This is not something we choose to do and not something we can leave out. It happens on every purchase, not only when somebody asks us about one.

Our records are open to police inspection, and we will hand over information when we are legally required to.

Cash For Phones Albury uses ResellMaxx to run this website and to store quotes and messages. ResellMaxx processes that information on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes.

Apart from the reporting described above, and the first name and last initial a referring customer sees (see "Customer referrals" below), we share your details with no one else unless we are legally required to.

Quotes that do not lead to a sale are kept for up to two years so we can see the history if you come back to us.

Records of completed purchases are kept for at least three years, because we are required to hold them for that long. We cannot delete those early even if you ask us to.

Under the Privacy Act 1988 and its Australian Privacy Principles you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for access to it, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can also ask us to stop using it to market to you, and we have to stop.

If you are not happy with how we handled it, tell us first and we will look at it again. If that does not resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

This site is not for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and we do not buy devices from anyone under 18.

If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including limiting who at Cash For Phones Albury can see it. No system is perfectly secure and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

If information about you is exposed in a way that the law requires us to tell you about, we will tell you.

If you visit through a customer referral link, we use a first-party cookie for up to 90 days to remember the referring customer. We record visits, pages and quote steps, submitted requests, chat activity, and taps on our call button to understand referrals. The referring customer does not receive your browsing history or contact details. You can clear this cookie in your browser settings.

You can also be referred without a link. When you sell to us we may ask whether anyone sent you, and you can give us that person's name or phone number. We only use it to find them among our existing customers. We never use it to add anyone new to our records, and nobody is texted because you gave us their number.

When someone is referred, we record who referred them, when, and whether it was through a link or by telling us. We also record each reward: how much it was, and whether it has been paid or added to a sale.

If you were referred, the customer who referred you sees your first name and the initial of your last name, the date, and whether you have asked us for a quote or sold to us. They never see what you sold, what we paid you, or your contact details.

If someone referred you, the bill of sale tells you who, and what they will see. You can tick a box asking us not to show them your name. If you do, they see only that someone they referred sold to us, and they still earn their reward.

When you sell to us we make you a seller account page. It shows the receipts for what you have sold to us and any referral rewards you have earned, with the people you have referred, by first name and last initial. If you ticked the optional box for texts on the bill of sale, it also shows your own referral link to share.

There is no password. The page opens only from the private link we text you, so anyone who has that link can see it. Please do not post it anywhere public. If you think someone else has it, tell us and we will switch that link off.

This site uses Google Ads conversion tracking to understand how visitors find and use it. These services set cookies and record pages viewed, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you are browsing on. They do not receive the contact details you type into the quote form.

We also send some information about what happened on this site to those advertising platforms directly from our own server, so that we can see which ads bring us real enquiries. That can include a scrambled version of an email address or phone number, which the platform uses to match you to an account it already has. Because this is sent from our server rather than from your browser, blocking cookies does not stop it.
